Telling Community Stories: A Boulder County Public Health Photo Project

There is something special about telling a community’s story from the inside out. This fall, TruBlu Images had the opportunity to do just that during a photo shoot across Boulder County for Boulder County Public Health, in partnership with Barefoot PR. The goal was simple but meaningful: highlight the people, places, and everyday moments that bring this community to life.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at a Fall Shoot

Fall in Boulder County offers a natural backdrop that feels both grounded and alive. Crisp air, changing leaves, and a steady rhythm of daily life set the tone for a shoot that was less about posed perfection and more about authenticity. From the start, this project was rooted in connection. We weren’t just capturing locations, we were documenting how people move through them and what they mean to the community.

Throughout the day, the camera followed moments as they unfolded naturally. Conversations, quiet pauses, shared smiles, and the simple act of being present all became part of the story. That’s where the most powerful images tend to live.

Exploring the Places That Define Boulder County

Our shoot took us across several cities that feel deeply woven into the fabric of Boulder County life, including Lafayette, Louisville, Longmont, Lyons, Niwot, Boulder, and Erie. Along the way, we photographed Hall Ranch, which offered wide-open space and a reminder of the county’s strong connection to the outdoors. The Longmont farmers market was full of energy, color, and community interaction, a place where people gather not just to shop, but to connect. Niwot Square added a sense of small-town warmth, with local businesses and familiar faces creating a strong feeling of belonging.

Beyond these locations, we explored so many of the beautiful outdoor spots that make Boulder County so special. Trails, parks, and shared public places became the setting for stories about health, access, and community well-being.

Photographing People and Purpose

Working with Boulder County Public Health was a reminder to me that public health is ultimately about people. This project focused on the human side of that work, the individuals, families, and community members who make up the county and shape its culture.

Why Community Storytelling Matters

Projects like this remind us at TruBlu Images why we love working with communities and organizations that care deeply about the people they serve. Photography has the power to make stories visible, to help others see themselves reflected, and to highlight the everyday moments that often go unnoticed.

Every frame is an opportunity to show connection and story. In Boulder County, those stories are everywhere, in the landscapes, in the gathering places, and most importantly, in the people who call it home.
