A Fresh Chapter With Edible Denver

This February, I had the opportunity to photograph a shoot for Edible Denver as they prepare for their relaunch this June. Being part of this moment felt incredibly meaningful, not just because of the work itself, but because of what the publication represents.

Edible Denver is a quarterly print magazine that highlights local farmers, artisans, and producers, sharing the stories behind the food we eat. Their focus on connection and community, along with their commitment to supporting a more sustainable and locally rooted food system, is exactly the kind of mission I’m drawn to. When I believe in what a brand stands for, it naturally shapes the way I approach capturing it.

A Collaborative process

Working with Molly O'Brien, Editor in Chief of Edible Denver, set the tone for the entire shoot. Molly styled each dish with so much intention and creativity, and it made every frame feel considered from the start.

The process felt easy in the best way. Everyone was aligned, ideas flowed naturally, and there was a shared understanding of what we were creating. That kind of collaboration makes all the difference.

The setting

We photographed at Bloom Apetit in the Highlands, which offered the perfect environment for the shoot. The natural light throughout the space added a softness that elevated every detail, while the warm, inviting atmosphere complemented the food without competing with it.

It allowed us to keep the focus where it belonged, on the textures, colors, and composition of each dish.

back to food photography

It had been a while since I last photographed food, and returning to it felt refreshing. Food photography requires a different kind of attention. It’s about slowing down, noticing the small details, and being intentional with every frame.

Stepping back into that mindset reminded me how much I enjoy capturing work that is both visual and story-driven.

More than the final images

What stood out most about this shoot was the energy behind it. It was creative, collaborative, and genuinely fun. That kind of environment always carries through to the final images in a way that’s hard to replicate otherwise.

My goal is always to go beyond documenting what something looks like and instead reflect the story and purpose behind it. With Edible Denver, that meant highlighting not just the food, but the intention and community that surround it.

Looking ahead

I’m excited to see this next chapter of Edible Denver come to life this summer. It’s an honor to have contributed to the relaunch, and I’m grateful to have been part of a project that aligns so closely with the kind of work I care about.

Shoots like this are a reminder of why collaboration and shared vision matter so much. When those pieces come together, the work speaks for itself.
